An increase of 16.8% in Vietnam tuna imports

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Total value of Vietnam's tuna imports from countries in 2015 recorded US$214.9 million, an increase of 16.8% compared to 2014. Imports of most tuna products are rising, especially raw tuna.

 In 2015, Vietnam imported more than US$184 million of fresh, frozen and dried tuna (HScode 03), an increase of 10% compared with US$167 million in 2014, representing more than 85% of  Vietnam's tuna imports in the year. It’s followed by tuna loins with nearly US$28 million, up nearly 82% compared to same period in 2014.

According to the statistics of Vietnam customs, Vietnam imported tuna from 36 countries of the world. South Korea is the biggest exporter of tuna for Vietnam, accounted for more than 21%, followed by China and Hong Kong account for more than 10% and the EU with 4.8%.

In 2015, Vietnam's tuna imports from South Korea reached more than US$45.7 million, an increase of 66% over the same period.

Last year, Vietnam's tuna imports from the EU increased by more than 313%, reaching more than US$10.2 million. With the signing of Free Trade Agreement between the EU-Vietnam (EVFTA), Vietnam's tuna imports from the EU is expected to increase sharply.
