Shrimp exports to Australia increased 1.6 times

( In the first 4 months of this year, Vietnam's shrimp exports to a number of markets grew dramatically compared to the same period last year, including the Australian market. As of the first half of April 2021, the total value of Vietnam's shrimp exports to the Australian market reached US$47.4 million, up 60% over the same period last year.

As a potential shrimp export market in the CPTPP market, in the past two years, Vietnam's shrimp export value (especially vannamei shrimp) to the Australian market has been quite favorable and achieved positive results. In the first quarter of 2021, there are more than 20 Vietnamese enterprises participating in exporting shrimp to this market, of which the largest company is Minh Phu Hau Giang Seafood Joint Stock Company.

Vietnam's shrimp products exported to Australia in the first quarter of this year are also quite diverse, in which, mainly frozen whiteleg shrimp and black tiger shrimp (HS code 03061721 and 03061722): fresh frozen whiteleg shrimp PDTO, fresh headless tail on peeled whiteleg shrimp, fresh PD black tiger shrimp, mantis meat, whole mantis shrimp. In addition, Vietnam is also exporting dried shrimp products (HS code 03069530) to Australia...

According to the latest statistics of ITC, in the first two months of 2021, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Malaysia, and Brunei are the top 5 shrimp supplying markets for the Australian market, in which, Vietnam is the largest market, accounting for 65% of the total value of imported shrimp into the market.

Although the price of shrimp imported from Vietnam is still higher than that of rival countries from 1 to 2.71 USD/kg, Vietnamese shrimp are competing very well in this market.
