Vietnams tuna exports to Belgium increase continuously

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The 2021 is a challenging year for Vietnamese tuna exporters to Egypt because of Egyptian government’s measures to prevent the covid 19 pandemic. Egypt's economy was severely damaged, demand for food consumption decreased along with the policy of reducing imports and increasing exports to narrow the trade deficit had created an unfavorable condition for Vietnam tuna exporters. Vietnam's tuna exports to Egypt in the year are unstable, falling for many months compared to the same period in 2020.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to the statistics of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam tuna export turnover in June 2022 reached $90 million, up 41% compared to June 2021. Accumulated in the first 6 months of 2022, tuna export turnover reached US$553 million, up 56% over the same period in 2022. Tuna exports to main markets recorded positive growths, except for the EU, Israel and Egypt.

Even when the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic hindered tuna export to other markets, Vietnam’s tuna export to Chile still maintained the growth. Vietnam tuna exports to Chile increase continuously in the first 5 months of 2022.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to Directorate of Fisheries, Vietnam fisheries production in the first 6 months of the year was estimated at 4,196.8 thousand tons, increased by 2.5% over the same period last year (in the second quarter of 2022, it reached 2,333.3 thousand tons, up 2.9%), including: Fish reached 3,044.4 thousand tons, up 1.7%; shrimp reached 520 thousand tons, up 9.4%; other marine products reached 632.4 thousand tons, up 1.2%.

However, the total export value to this market still increased by 41% compared to the same period in 2021, reaching more than 5.1 million USD. Mexico is currently the 13th largest import market of Vietnam’s tuna in this period.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After continuous growth in the first 3 months of 2022, Germany has replaced the Netherlands as the 5th largest single import market and the largest tuna importer in the EU of Vietnam. In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam's tuna export value to Germany had an average growth rate of nearly 58% over the same period last year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam tuna exports in March 2022 continued to grow well at 58% y-o-y, reaching 104 million USD, bringing the total tuna export value in the first 3 months of this year to the highest level in the past 5 years.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After a continuous decline in 2021, Vietnam's tuna exports to Peru spiked in January 2022, with a rate of 2,290% over the same period in 2021.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam's tuna exports to the EU in 2021 were nearly equivalent to 2020, reaching US$144 million, up 6 %. However, tuna exports to countries in the bloc have changed and most notably to the French market.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In November 2021, Vietnam's tuna exports continued to grow strongly by 51% over the same period in 2020, reaching more than 78 million USD. It is estimated that tuna exports in December will also grow at the same rate, and is estimated at about 85 million USD, bringing the total value of tuna exports in 2021 to about 757 million USD.

Continuously from the beginning of the year, Vietnam's tuna export value has grown continuously.

The Middle East continues to be a market. Vietnam's fourth largest tuna exporter after the US, EU and CPTPP. Currently, there are many tuna companies redirecting their exports to the Middle East markets.
