Vietnam tuna exports to Spain increase at the end of the year

( In September 2022, Vietnam tuna exports reached more than 78 million USD, an increase of 54% over the same period in 2021, but 15% lower than August. Accumulated in the first 9 months of 2022, Vietnam's tuna exports reached nearly US$808 million, up 55% over the same period in 2021. Thus, tuna exports continued to grow over the same period, but export value tends to decrease month by month.

( According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, the Middle East is currently the third largest tuna import market of Vietnam after the US and EU. The value of Vietnam's tuna exports to this market block in the first 8 months of 2022 increased by 40% over the same period in 2021, reaching nearly $66 million, the highest level in the past 5 years.

( In the first 8 months of 2022, Vietnam's tuna export turnover to Denmark continuously peaked. The growth rate of export value over each month continuously maintained at a high, three-digit level, compared to the same period last year.

( After months of slowing down, Vietnam's tuna exports accelerated in August. According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, the value of tuna exports in August 2022 increased by 86% compared to the same period in 2021, reaching nearly 92 million USD. This number is nearly 1.5 times higher than the same period in 2019, the time before the pandemic.

( As the 7th largest tuna import market among 27 EU countries, Belgium is one of the few markets that has maintained continuous growth in tuna imports in the past 2 years. Currently, this country is also the third largest import market of Vietnam tuna in the bloc.

( Vietnam's tuna exports in July 2022 slowed down with an export value of more than 85 million USD, up 32% over the same period in 2021. This figure brought the total tuna export turnover in the first 7 months of 2022 to reach 638 million USD, up 52% over the same period in 2021.

( According to Vietnam Customs, Vietnam's tuna exports to the EU decreased continuously in the second quarter of 2022. However, thanks to good growth in the first 3 quarters of the year, accumulated for the first 6 months of 2022, tuna export value to this market still increased by 4% compared to the same period, reaching more than 77 million USD.

( Following the growth trend at the end of 2021, Vietnam's tuna exports to France have continuously grown at a high rate in the first half of 2022. The average export growth rate reached 510 %/month.

( The 2021 is a challenging year for Vietnamese tuna exporters to Egypt because of Egyptian government’s measures to prevent the covid 19 pandemic. Egypt's economy was severely damaged, demand for food consumption decreased along with the policy of reducing imports and increasing exports to narrow the trade deficit had created an unfavorable condition for Vietnam tuna exporters. Vietnam's tuna exports to Egypt in the year are unstable, falling for many months compared to the same period in 2020.

( According to the statistics of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam tuna export turnover in June 2022 reached $90 million, up 41% compared to June 2021. Accumulated in the first 6 months of 2022, tuna export turnover reached US$553 million, up 56% over the same period in 2022. Tuna exports to main markets recorded positive growths, except for the EU, Israel and Egypt.

( After the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) took effect from January 2019, Vietnam’s tuna export turnover to Chile has prospered. Even when the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic hindered tuna export to other markets, Vietnam’s tuna export to Chile still maintained the growth. Vietnam tuna exports to Chile increase continuously in the first 5 months of 2022.

( According to Directorate of Fisheries, Vietnam fisheries production in the first 6 months of the year was estimated at 4,196.8 thousand tons, increased by 2.5% over the same period last year (in the second quarter of 2022, it reached 2,333.3 thousand tons, up 2.9%), including: Fish reached 3,044.4 thousand tons, up 1.7%; shrimp reached 520 thousand tons, up 9.4%; other marine products reached 632.4 thousand tons, up 1.2%.

( In the first 4 months of 2022, Vietnam's tuna exports to Mexico were unstable. However, the total export value to this market still increased by 41% compared to the same period in 2021, reaching more than 5.1 million USD. Mexico is currently the 13th largest import market of Vietnam’s tuna in this period.

( Businesses in Khanh Hoa province are increasing the purchase of tuna for processing to export to the US and EU markets.
