(vasep.com.vn) The draft of Vietnam fisheries development strategy to 2030 and vision to 2045, focuses on the farming sector, including shrimp, pangasius, and marine fish ... Therefore, in this decade, Vietnam fisheries are expected to have a better growth rate. Last year, although the Covid epidemic had quite a serious impact on the global seafood supply chain, the processing and export of Vietnamese shrimp still prospered. From 2020 to early 2021 a series of new shrimp processing factories were inaugurated, signaling a new period of optimism for the Vietnamese shrimp industry.

At the beginning of the new year 2021, Thuan Phuoc Seafoods and Trading Corporation opened An An shrimp processing factory in Tien Giang, with a campus of nearly 3 hectares and an investment of over 400 billion VND, processing capacity about 50 tons of finished shrimp per day and cold storage capacity of 3,000 tons. This development investment will contribute to push Thuan Phuoc entering into the top 5 shrimp companies in Vietnam. At the same time, An An has a shrimp farming area of 200 hectares in Ba Tri, Ben Tre. This will become an ideal area, suitable for supplying raw materials as well as creating proactive control of food safety. An An is built synchronously, having a wastewater treatment system with a capacity up to 1500 m3/hour, ensuring its environment and sustainable development goals.
In the current context of the fisheries sector, An An’s inauguration is a breakthrough, but at the same time, many large shrimp enterprises have also actively changed. For example, Minh Phu Seafood Corporation has a plan at the end of the first quarter of 2021 to start two large processing factories in Hau Giang and Ca Mau, with a combined capacity of nearly 50,000 tons/year, an investment of nearly 1,000 billions VND. At the same time, Minh Phu also plans to build a factory in Kien Giang.
Sao Ta Foods Joint Stock Company (FIMEX) is also quick to take advantage of the opportunity to build 2 factories in An Nghiep Soc Trang Industrial Zone, constructed at the same time in 2020, with a total capacity of 20,000 tons/year and investment at nearly 400 billion VND.
Nha Trang Seafoods Joint Stock Company - F17 (NTSF) is also heading South similarly to Thuan Phuoc. NTSF already has a shrimp and pangasius processing factory in Thot Not, and is completing final stages for a shrimp processing plant in Ho Phong, Bac Lieu, with a capacity of 10,000 tons/year.
Minh Hai Joint Stock Seafoods Processing Company (Sea Minh Hai) is improving production conditions, increasing processing capacity and food safety for its 3 factories in Bac Lieu. Ca Mau Seafood Processing & Service Joint Stock Corporation (CASES) has renewed its deep processing factory and increased its storage capacity by 3,000 tons. In addition, the "giants" of the shrimp industry in Soc Trang such as Stapimex, Cleanfood, Taika, Khanh Sung ... all have programs to develop their activities in the coming years. The establishment of new businesses such as Thai Hoa (2019), Khanganfoods (early 2021) will not only make the competition of the shrimp industry more exciting, but will also be the driving force to make Soc Trang soon become a key shrimp area of the country.
In the jubilant atmosphere of the inauguration ceremony of An An factory with several flower baskets, I can feel the flow of the shrimp industry is persistently quiet, but will soon be exciting, especially during the second half of the year. The impressive export turnover figures are expected to be similar to the figures given by VASEP in the General Congress in December 2020.
Signals from An An factory and a series of new factories also create warm feelings in early spring, because it partly shows the synchronization of shrimp value chain links, helping Vietnamese shrimp to develop more stably and sustainably.
